CrossRhythms magazine gave this debut solo album for Helen Turner 9/10 "a stunning performance" & "a wonderful collection of songs"

Helen's stunning vocals bring a power & passion to this genre which is rarely heard in these days of highly clinical production.

The songs are an intriguing mix of styles and lyrical revelation, with a playful mix of experience and supposition.

Incredible as it may seem, there are still members of the general public who own a CD player and yet STILL do not own a copy of this album.

Recently re-released, this 1996 album marked a dramatic departure from the less disciplined sound of Ascent.  Alison Eve's searing yet intimate vocals set this album apart, and the quality of songwriting is exceptional; and has a remarkably wide appeal.

As 2001 marks a year of exciting and varied projects for Eve & The Garden, now is the time to remember where this five piece group came from.  Rich rhythmical textures beautifully weaved by Paul Cudby combined with Phil Rainey's driving bass act as a firm foundation for the interleaved lead work of Alyson Rainey on violin and Paul A Davies on lead guitar.  Alison's vocal then rise above this highly textured canvas to complete the picture painted by this labour of love.

Though superficially based in the folk genre, this album plays with the listener as it draws heavy influences from a vast range of musical styles.  From tribal drum work, through middle eastern dance music, through to the unmistakable western edge of contemporary rock guitar gymnastics and texturing.

The debut solo album from paul a davies, guitarist with Eve & The Garden; and guitarist/producer with the Helen Turner Band.

This eclectic mix of tracks constantly shies away from a typical guitarist's album, preferring instead to focus on producing textures and evocative landscapes.  The recording of the album has been squeezed into the gaps between other production jobs in the studio, and as a result is very late in release.  With almost all the instrumentation performed by paul himself, it has been a highly personal album to write and produce.

Predominantly instrumentals, the scant vocal performances again tend to be used more as instrumentation thus freeing the arrangements up from the classic song structure.  The album features a song written especially for the 7th12th collective movie 'The Killing Zone'.

Marking the way forward for future material, the album also puts to bed a number of pieces written over the last ten years but never recorded.

(a special 2CD version called 'postcards v1.1' will be released in july 06 and features a completely remastered copy of PfAC and a 2nd CD of tracks that wouldn't fit on PfAC, called 'postcards that never got sent') shipped in slimline case.

p-a-d continues to experiment with his love of rhythm despite his guitar-roots by taking a walk into the realms of r&b + ambient rhythms.

the album features new ventures in instrumentation with paul having written at least 3 tracks solely on chapman stick for 'strange tale'

"stick is great because it lets you rethink the way you compose entirely - it's a halfway house between a rhythm and melodic instrument and so it lends itself to 'pattern' playing, which is a very interesting way for a lead guitarist to write - trust me!"

recorded entirely at the new tbm studios in doncaster, and using some of the latest cutting edge virtual instruments, 'strange tale' has a depth and feel unlike any of p-a-d's previous work.

due to recent changes in eve & the garden, work has currently been suspended for the foreseeable future on sandance.  it is hoped that the work described below will appear in some form later in the year, but for the moment, eve & the garden are concentrating on re-working material into a new format and live work.
