The Rumours broke musical ground in 1996 with the release of their 'Longer Days' ep. Utilising low whistle, ethnic polyrhythms, the remarkable Chapman Stick, and the enchanting vocals of Rachel Coates and Helen Turner, the Rumours weaved intricate harmonies and compelling rhythmic structures to produce some of the most listenable music of the year.
With all the members of Rumours pursuing varied projects, helen turner teamed up with paul d at tollbooth in late 1997 to demo some of her solo material.
Following a hiatus of five months while Helen travelled the world, work began again on some more complex arrangements of these simple beginnings, yielding some very interesting new directions.
Helen's soaring vocals range from deep and rich low textures via gentle caressive softer moments to gritty passion and anger.
The music sweeps from simple guitar and vocal arrangements through to complex ambient grooves using a wide variety of unconventional and unusual instruments.
Ethnic wind instruments, accordion, cello & violin, e-bow guitar, chapman stick and fretless bass all joining with helen's captivating vocals to produce a collection of songs which contain resonances for everyone.
With nods in the direction of artists such as; Sarah McLachlan, Ani DiFranco, Indigo Girls, Heather Nova & Paula Cole, Helen's music is infused with a remarkable originality and vibrancy.
